Materials:
Paint and primer cans
Paint brushes
Painter’s tape
Foam roller and handle
Drop cloth
Optional: Scraper and sanding sheets
Steps:
- Remove hardware on the doo aand use painter’s tape to protect any features you don’t want to paint.
- Clean your door to ensure it’s free of debris. If there’s any old paint peeling off, use a scraper to remove it and sanding sheets to smooth out the surface. After you’ve wiped everything down, make sure the door is completely dry.
- If you’re not sure what color you want go with, paint a small amount of multiple sample colors on the door to see what they’d look like. Be sure to pick a color that looks good both inside (when the door is open) and outside—and don’t forget to check the color under multiple types of light.
- Once you’ve chosen a color, use a primer to hide the old paint on your door and make the new paint last. Let it dry for at least 24 hours.
- Paint along the edges of the door first using a paint brush. Use the foam roller to fill in larger spaces.
- Let the paint dry for 24 hours between each coat.
- Reattach your hardware, and enjoy your door in its new state.
